Every decade, every year, every month, every week, and every day is a new learning experience. Through learning we are aiming toward gaining wisdom and understanding.
This week marked multiple new learning experiences. School started, work started, new roommates, New Years resolution meal plans and so on. On the first day of school we are usually asked to introduce ourselves or fill out a paper with our hobbies and information. I noticed a pattern with all of my answers. At the end of my responses I usually wrote that I loved to learn and that I was excited to learn new things. This is something that I love but I got to thinking a little bit. Learning new things usually isn’t easy. It takes time, effort and sometimes it is uncomfortable, but everything we learn is added to our wisdom and understanding, even when that learning comes from our mistakes.
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
I was listening to a BYU devotional by Robert D. Hales and It applied perfectly to the learning process.
Intelligence, knowledge, wisdom and understanding are three different things.
“Wisdom comes through life’s experiences turning us to the Lord and ultimately learning in our hearts.” -Robert D. Hales
“The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath He established the heavens” (Proverbs 3:19).
Although life has been hectic this week it was nice to take time to ponder the meaning of wisdom and understanding. Everything that we experience in life brings us wisdom and ultimately changes our heart so that we can become our best selves. In order to become our best we need to climb to higher grounds and be willing to put in the effort.
I’ve come to know this week that everything happens for a reason. We all go through new things every day and changes come every second of our day so that we can learn and grow. There is always a test but it’s all part of the plan.
“Our challenges, learning experiences, and the opposition we come up against are supposed to strengthen us, not defeat or destroy us.” -Elder Robert D. Hales
So, if you’re wondering why the learning never stops and why we are always tested, just remember that without it we wouldn’t be happy. Life is meant to be Joyful.
Learning and understanding, even when they get tough, help us stand strong on higher grounds to realize our worth. It helps us reach our full potential. We will truly understand the plan that God has for our lives as we seek learning and we seek His help along the way.
Learn something new this week and remember that you are loved and therefore are given experiences to learn and grow with the ultimate goal of eternal happiness. Learn to stand strong on higher grounds and gain the understanding that matters.
